It seems so outrageous that we don`t understand what we wanted and what we want. As Punjabis and Sikhs only thing that we long for is freedom. Remember Punjab is plain land and land of rivers. If invaders wanted to reach Indian Sub continent they had to cross rivers and while returning they would have to cross rivers again,briefly stop on the way, therefore punjabis were looted twice. Only exception to that was the Europeans. Due to lack of strong central control Mughals let Sikh Chiefs control Punjab with relative peace during late 1700s and early 1800s. Now this gave rise to Sikh Ambition for greater role in India. The British used Sikh chiefs to suppress revolt of 1857 and divided Indian psyche.
Now by the 1940s the Sikhs matured and were able to side with progressive minded leaders be it the revolutionary or the Gandhians. The British had now lost one of the major support in Sikhs(Punjabis Generally)and they were the most dependable force of people letting them hold India. The other kings were so greedy they were hard to sustain as a business model. The Congress leaders like Nehru were NOT Foolish when they said Sikhs will see the glow of freedom somewhere in the North of India, he understood the Paradigm. Sikhs were torn due to there usual sense of commitment to society. Big chunk of Sikh had felt the birth pains of India. Thereafter Mr. Nehru conveniently disregarded all Sikh demands as they stood no negotiable grounds, who was going to help the Sikhs the Pakistan? or the Britishers? or the local Princes? Nehru did not realize that Sikhs were committed DEMOCRATS(just refer to Romans History)Sikh kept the voice for their rights and got some and did not get some.
Then comes the era of Mrs.Gandhi. She could not gauge the passion of the Sikhs and things took a real rough road there on. It was what Mrs. Gandhi herself could not imagine and her advisors put her into a wrong situation where there was a dead end.
Now no matter how much someone propagates that Sikhs want Khalistan and no matter how many Sikhs try to defend that they don`t want it. Khalistan is going to be a reality be it entire India or minus some parts or even a small place in Punjab, because it relates to the ethos of the common man anywhere in India(modified English word for Hindu land). My sincere apologies to all Hindus if it hurts because all Hindus are not bad but they definitely have elected them again and again to repress the Sikhs and indulge in false Propaganda.
Look at the western Society where we live do you like the rules here? of course you left India to stay here these will be the rules of KHALISTAN and even better.
It is just the thought of Khalistan as fringe state gives jitters to my fellow Sikhs. Look towards the philosophy of Baba Nanak and then understand Sikhs have be be in Chardi kala and bothering about sikhi just as tenants is worthless. What if there is even better things in store, that is the reason we are Sikhs(learners)

Now a piece of advise to Summy that please don`t consider yourself as a Guru and describe Sikhs and Sikhi that was the problem that Baba Nanak faced when he was advised to undertake some kind of authority. So far as Punjabi culture is concerned do you even know that three Punjabi languages have died and we are just concerned about the Bhangara. If you ever get a chance go to some Khalsa camp and see how Sikhs enjoy only difference is that they don`t like Dancing for others and on their tunes. The concept of Niarapan is what Khalistan is. Those who joined Indian confederacy had lots of hopes but many have dashed and it is taking years to undo injustices committed.
