The website can be used to download the registration packet, read about the organizing committee, and to review the judging criteria.

The competition will be divided into two categories:
5 Bhangra Teams
5 Fusion Teams

A total of $5000 will be awarded in prizes
Bhangra Prize (First prize: $1500 and Second prize: $1000)
Fusion Prize (First prize: $1500 and Second prize: $1000)

The early registration packet must be received no later than Saturday, September 13, 2008 by 11:59 pm EST (either electronically or a hard copy) with the registration fee of $200.


[b]BHANGRA JUDGES[/b]

[u]Amandeep Singh[/u]
Amandeep Singh is a Soros Scholar and an MD/PhD student at Cornell Medical School. He was the president and captain of Cornell Bhangra in college, where he lead his team to place at six national bhangra competitions including Blowout, Fusion, Blast and Nation. Since then, he has co-founded the "Pao Bhangra" exhibition, and choreographed professionally for the Bollywood Music Awards, New York City Summer Stage, and the music videos of Bikram Singh. He has also performed for the concerts of many artists such as Malkit Singh, Tigerstyle, Bikram Singh and Cheb I Sabbah. Amandeep has previously been a judge at nine bhangra competitions including South Beach Bhangra, Bhangra Fusion, Bhangra in the Burgh, Boston Bhangra and Best of the Best.

[u]Pashi Singh Malik[/u]
Pashi Singh Malik is currently the President and Captain of The Rutgers University Bhangra Team as well as the President of the Sikh Student Association at Rutgers University. He is active in organizing Punjabi cultural programs in the New Jersey area as well as Bhangra events at the University. He has taught Dhol and Bhangra at all levels, with students. Pashi has been performing Bhangra and playing the Dhol since the age of 14, starting in school and continuing through college and university. He has also studied under Madan Madi - Dhol Master- who has performed with famous Punjabi artists around the globe including Jazzy B and Hans Raj Hans. Pashi has performed at numerous places including Bruin Bhangra, South Beach Bhangra, Bhangra Blowout, The Bhangra Project, Boston Bhangra, the Best of the Best competition(s), Punjabi melas, and Asian Heritage Festivals. Pashi not only performs but also arranges the music and choreographs Bhangra. Some performed on playback, and others are set on live Dhol and `Bolis.` Pashi is actively involved in teaching students about the history of Bhangra and the main steps in Bhangra and how to execute them, including Dhamaal, Jugni, Luddi, Sammi, Sialkoti, Phumaninan, Mirza, Jhumar etc. He has led his team to place at 7 national competitions including: Bhangra Blowout, Bhangra in the Burgh, and South Beach Bhangra, and Naachvention. Pashi has used his vast knowledge of Bhangra to teach students of all ages and enjoys his active involvement in Bhangra events and continues to share his passion with the Punjabi community.

[u]Ajay Kataria[/u]
At a young age, Ajay Kataria was trained in not only Bhangra, but also learned and performed Jhummar all throughout the late 1980`s into the early 1990`s. At New York University, Ajay was instrumental in starting the Bhangra club and Team in 2001 and became the President, Captain, and Choreographer through 2002 and 2003. Most recently, he has performed with the cast of Bombay Dreams, the Broadway musical in Cleveland, Ohio for a corporate event. Currently Ajay has been learning Dhol for about 7 years. He has studied under many local NY teachers, including Madan Madi. One of his most prized accomplishments on Dhol has been that he has been recorded on a soon to be released track by international superstar Sukhbir and Chicago based R&B fusion Indian singer Reggie Benjamin. His knowledge of Bhangra and Dhol stems from his thorough study of the Punjabi folk dances and music. Through reading books and watching videos, he has gained a good understanding of the Punjabi folk dances on their own pre-1947, and their development after the 1947 split of Punjab. He has organized 2 large seminars for Punjabi Lok Virsa in New York and Philadelphia dealing with Bhangra (pre and post 1947) as well as Men`s and Womens Giddha. Ajay has competed and judged competitions all throughout the country and has been an instrumental figure in the Bhangra scene of Philadelphia and New York City for numerous years now.


The application can be filled out, scanned and e-mailed directly to gothamproductions@gmail.com. Audition videos should be transferred through an instant messenger (AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger) or through any file uploading website.
