Punjabi literature readers are decreasing : Ram Sarup Ankhi

Famous litrerateur, Ram Sarup Ankhi has regretted that the number of literature readers in Punjabi is decreasing. This comes in sharp contrast to the sudden spurt in Punjabi music which is being played all across the Indian subcontinent. Though more and more people understand punjabi language, serious literature readers are on the downswing.
Ankhi says, ?Citing the reasons for decline in readership, he explained, ?There was a time when people used to find time for reading after a day?s work. But these days, the first thing they do when they reach home is to switch on the television. That leaves them with no time for reading.? Anakhi has authored 14 novels and 12 collections of short stories over a span of 37 years.?? this has been reported here by Ludhiana Newsline

Does multi language formula create a mess?

In India, the tri lingual formula has been used for long. English, Hindi and mother tongue, all three have been used in tandem with each other.
However a news in Daily Times of Pakistan suggests that it creates more problems. Under the headline, ?Trilingual mess has ruined creativity?, it says ?The trilingual mess of English, Urdu and Punjabi has ruined the creativity of Pakistani students, as these languages have become the lingual phenomena of our nation, said Mirza Athar Baig, a drama writer.?
He was speaking at a seminar on Trend of Translation in Social Sciences and Related Issues organised by the Sondhi Translation Society at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore, stated a press release issued by the GCU on Tuesday.
