When did this become a bashing session for me?  I was initially simply providing an example of a situation in which even if a person is Punjabi, there can still be many reasons why a relationship would not work and why your family would be agianst it.

As for my "idiocy",
1: I am fully aware that I am dating a guy whom I can never marry.  Just because I choose to have a little bit of fun (and not be single) until I find "mr. right" does not make me an idiot.  Granted, in the back of my mind, I do have my fingers crossed that things work out, but that does not change the fact that I am in full control of my emotions.
2:  Since when is dating a Muslim so bad, ie why would I be settling?  The guy Im dating is a wonderful person, and we have a great relationship.  We are both fully aware that we can never be married.  But the fact that you feel that a person would be settling if he/she were to marry a Muslim just goes to show that you have a very narrow scope on religion.
Which brings me to point Number 3: You so presumptuously say that marrying a Sikh would be way better than marrying a Muslim.  What makes Sikh`s so much better than Muslims?  Is it simply because Muslims are portrayed in a negative light in the media?  Sikhs of all people should be sympathetic to that.  If you recall, during 9-11, Sikhs were victims of a lot of hate crimes because of their turbans.  You would think that Sikhs would be sympathetic to others who are similarly treated because of something that extremists are doing and that they really have no control over.  Or is it all just because "Sikhs are better than Muslims"?  Fine, I can play the same game "Hindu`s are better than Sikhs".
And finally, 4: You also presume that the only place to find a hindu guy is in a temple.  Believe it or not, not all people who go to the temple are necessarily good (and non-ghetto) people, and not all good (and non-ghetto) people go to the temple.

Finding the right person for yourself is difficult no matter what color, religion, personal tastes are.
