Re: World Cup http://www.sportingo.com/rugby/rugby_american_football_dislocated_war/1001,4069] Compares the American game to its international cousin Rugby Idea: For people who are not big, or too old ( not fit enough) to play Rugby, how about a Punjabi version? Punjabi Rules Rugby or Shugby for short? Key differences: A 8 man team only, with 3 backs and 5 forwards No Scrum or Scrimmage..instead use the Rugby Lineout approach at the half way line wth the Referee throwing the ball between the two teams ( a metre apart). The one who catches it and passes it to his teams begins the match. This avoid the scrum and bad ears and the danger to broken necks ( my only fear about my young boys playing the game). No rucks or falling on top of each other. Instead as soon as someone has been tackled to the ground they must immeadiately be given a chance to pass to a nearby team mate or hand the ball over within 10 seconds. As long as they have not been turned and the ball has not touched the ground, in which case the ball is handed over to the man who tackles them to throw backwards to a team mate. So the more viscious aspects of Rugby are deleted for the ordinary man ( read man less than 300lbs ) who can then enjoy this cross between Rugby, Gridiron and Aussie Rules? Sort of Kabbadi meets Rugby? What do you think? Discussion Thread
