Vedic religion....far from it, because then Sikhism would include many of the chants and mantras from the Vedas

but, we can seee alot of similarities. I mean, think about it, the greatest documents like the Vedas and Upanishads had to have some effect on Guru Nanak`s thinking, right?
Right, because many saw Nanak not as starting a new religion (hell, Sikhism wasn`t even solidified as a distinct religion till much later on) but more as rejuvanating what Sanathana Dharma stood for: belief in that one singular Paramatma that can only be reached through bhakti of one`s Atma. Thats the solid basis of Hindu Dharma, but Nanak saw all the rituals, all the bureacracy and casteism, and wished to eliminate it all and rejoin humanity.

If you know what the Vedas stood for, then you would see the influence (or if u dont believe it to be influenced, then fine, pure coincidential similarity) with it in Nanak`s teachings. Same with the core teachings of many other world religions: belief in that single God and striving to serve him and break free from this temporary world of illusion.
