you are quoting a man, some man whos speciality is law and in finding the legal definition of words....you dont use such a resource when it comes to a religion. The Vedas already said it: "Truth is one, the paths are many." ie. EK onkar, but many paths to reach that Onkara.

And yah, Guru Nanak was influenced by Islam, at least i think so. I do think he found Truth in it, otherwise he would not waste his time going on Hajj to Mecca nor would Sikh Gurus have so many Muslim bhakts (which is why the Mughal Sultanate was so jealous of Sikhi)

either way, I do respect Sikhi as its own religion, with many cultural aspects to it and its own traditions. But at the end of the day, I feel each of us 7 billion people on this Earth are trying to serve God in our own ways, in our own lokbani, in our own cultures. Different ways, same path. If you dont wish to associate Sikhi with any other of the cultural and religious traditions of India, that is fine.
