Re: Re: Saini Caste of Punjab Preeti and Daljit, I hope Preeti Oberoi married the Saini guy. Sainis are originally Rajputs from Mathura who took to farming in Punjab. Note all Rajput tribes in Punjab like Minhas, etc do farming. Farming does not make anybody low or high. It is an honorable profession spoken highly of by Sikh Gurus. Given below is the link to the account of a Saini general who led the Rajput army: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurdan_Saini http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saini Proud Rajputs of Rajputana would not have fought under the command of a person they considered to be inferior. If they appointed a Saini as a commander-in-chief of their army, then rest assured they had a very high opinion of social and historical stature of Sainis. Punjabi Sainis are a forward community and were list as a `martial class` by the British. Sainis were also revenue collectors of Zaildars in Hosharpur district. They have a pure Yaduvanshi Rajput ancestory going back to the grandfather of Lord Krishna. Lot of other lesser castes, Malis in particular, have adopted last name `Saini` for social promotion and this has led to confusion about Saini identity. Sainis have done a very poor job in documenting their history and non-scholarly websites like Sainistar.com have managed to spread further misinformation about Saini history and ethnography. Have a good one. Chan Mahi Discussion Thread
