Perhaps the most impressive thing about this album is how Dhaliwal will
regain his amazing reputation in the bhangra industry. After Dhol`n da
Mix 3, many questioned his talent and remixing skills. However, he has
shown that his hard-core Canadian dhol instrumentals mixed with Indian
bhangra artists (Satwinder Bugga, Durga Rangila, Sardool Sikander, etc)
can make some great music. We are glad to see that Dhaliwal is
sticking to his own creative style of bhangra remixing without being swayed by
the pop movement in India or the garage/house movement in the UK.
Ranjit Dhaliwal has bounced back with
his new album, Rise 2 Da Dhol, in 2002. Sticking with his traditional
dhol remixing and re-production of tracks, Dhaliwal has created a great
compilation. The album starts off with Sardool Sikander`s Aakhian Larh
Gayian. The added dhol and bass to the already catchy track meshes
beautifully -- one cannot help but get excited for the rest of the album.
Arguably the best track on the album, Bhangra by Rana Randhir, is sure
to be a dance floor hit. The show, rough, hard dhol beat mixed with a
sick tumbi melody will make any true bhangra lover bob their head and
shake their shoulders. With the exception of the last two tracks, much
praise must go to Dhaliwal for his excellent dhol and instrumental
remixing.

This album has a lot of dhol, but does that make it good? I don`t know, but I think there were not that many songs that were pleasing to listen to. This remixer, Ranjit Dhaliwal, has gone downhill ever since those hit albums Dhol in the Mix I and II. He hasn`t produced anything near to the quality of these albums. Maybe someday he can find better songs to remix and make another good album.
