teerath tap da-i-aa dat daan.
Xwqrw, qp`isAw, rihm Aqy KYrwq dyxI,
Pilgrimage, penance, compassion and alms giving,

jy ko pwvY iql kw mwnu ]
jay ko paavai til kaa maan.
jykr pwaux qW kuMjk mwqR (kdr) jW snmwn pwauNdIAW hn[
bring only a sesame (tiny amount) of honour (merit), if any.

suixAw mMinAw min kIqw Bwau ]
suni-aa manni-aa man keetaa bhaa-o.
jy koeI idl nwl hrI nwm nUµ srvx mMnx Aqy pRIq krdw hY,
Whoever heartily hears, believes and loves God's Name,

AMqrgiq qIriQ mil nwau ]
antargat teerath mal naa-o.
auh Awpxy AMdrly Drm AsQwn iv`c cMgI qrHW nhwky mukqI pw lYNdw hY[
obtains salvation by thoroughly bathing in the shrine within himself.

siB gux qyry mY nwhI koie ]
sab gun tayray mai naahee ko-i.
smUh nykIAW qYfIAW hn hy sweIN! myry iv`c koeI nhIN[
All virtues are Thine, O Lord! I have none.

ivxu gux kIqy Bgiq n hoie ]
vin gun keetay bhagat naa ho-i.
auqikRStqweIAW hwsl krn dy bwJoN suAwmI dI prym-meI syvw nhIN kIqI jw skdI[
Without acquiring the virtues, Lord's devotional service can not be performed.

su-a-sat aath baanee barmaa-o.
myrI inmskwr hY pRBU nUµ jo Awp hI sMswrI pdwrQ Aqy lPz brHmw Awidk hY[
My obeisance is unto God, who Himself is the creator of world and Brahma etc.

siq suhwxu sdw min cwau ]
sat suhaan sadaa man chaa-o.
auh s`cw Aqy suMdr hY Aqy prm Anµd sdIv hI ausdy ic`q AMdr vsdw hY[
He is true and beautiful and rapture ever abides within His mind.

kvxu su vylw vKqu kvxu kvx iQiq kvxu vwru ]
kavan su vaylaa vakhat kavan kavan thit kavan vaar.
auh ikhVw smW, ikhVw muhq, ikhVI iq`Q, ikhVw idn,
What the time, what movement, what lunar day, what week day,

kvix is ruqI mwhu kvxu ijqu hoAw Awkwru ]
kavan si rutee maahu kavan jit ho-aa aakaar.
Aqy auh ikhVw mOsm Aqy ikhVw mhInw sI, jd sMnswr (rcnw) dw pswrw hoieAw?
and what the season and what month, when the creation came into being?

vayl naa paa-ee-aa pandtee ji hovai laykh puraan.
pMfqw nUµ vyly dw pqw nhIN BwvyN purwnw dI ilKq AMdr ies dw izkr BI hovy[
The Pundits find not the time, even though it be mentioned in the Puran's texts.

vakhat naa paa-i-o kaadee-aa ji likhan laykh kuraan.
nW hI kwzI, ijhVy kurwn dI ilKq ilKdy hn, smy nUµ jwxdy hn[
Nor do the Qazis, who scribe the writing of Quran, Know the time.

iQiq vwru nw jogI jwxY ruiq mwhu nw koeI ]
 thit vaar naa jogee jaanai rut maahu naa ko-ee.
nW XogI, nW hI koeI hor, cMd dw idhwVw, spqwh dw idn, mOsm Aqy mhInw jwxdw hY[
Neither the yogi nor any one else knows the lunar day, week day season and the month.

jw krqw isrTI kau swjy Awpy jwxY soeI ]
jaa kartaa sirthee k-a-o saajay aapay jaanai so-ee.
jo isrjxhwr isRStI nUµ rcdw hY, auh Awp hI vyly nUµ jwxdw hY[
The Creator who creates the world, He Himself Knows (the time).

ikv kir AwKw ikv swlwhI ikau vrnI ikv jwxw ]
kiv kar aakhaa kiv saalaahee ki-o varnee kiv jaanaa.
qYnUµ iks qrHW kihAw iks qrHW slwihAw iks qrHW ibAwn kIqw Aqy iks qrHW jwixAw jwvy hy sweIN?
How to express, how to praise, how to describe and how to know Thee, O Lord?

Nanak! All describe Thy discourse and each is wiser then the other.

vadaa saahib vadee naa-ee keetaa jaa kaa hovai.
ivSwl hY mwlk qy ivSwl aus dw nwm Aqy jo kuC auh krdw hY, auhI huMdw hY[
Great is the Master and great His Name and what he does, comes to pass.

naanak jay ko aapou jaanai agai ga-i-aa naa sohai. ||21||

Nanak! if someone deems himself potent to do, He shall not look adorned on his arrival in the world hereafter.
